This Morning slammed for airing 'insensitive' segment amid cost of living crisis

This Morning has been criticised by viewers over airing a segment about multi-million pound properties amid the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Many ITV viewers told the show to "read the room" as it aired the controversial feature, with many suggesting the daytime programme shares some tips for those struggling at the moment instead.

Alison Hammond, 48, and Dermot O'Leary, 49, introduced the segment on the ITV show earlier by discussing a home that's said to have appeared in HBO series Succession.

They were joined by estate agent Leonard Steinberg, who showcased the property - reportedly worth around £67.2 million - which is said to have featured in the latest series.

The property - which led the segment taking viewers "inside Hollywood's most impressive homes" - is said to feature an infinity pool and a retractable roof in the master suite.

Leonard went on to discuss properties connected to the likes of Madonna, Lil Wayne, Rupert Murdoch and the late Zsa Zsa Gabor. Some were the celebrities' former homes.

The properties - some of which are on the market at the moment - were said to range in price from £2.8 million at the lower end to around £24 million for the most expensive.

The estate agent discussed the features that each of the homes boast, with him saying that they collectively include swimming pools, a terrace and even a private dock.

Some viewers took issue with the segment, particularly amid the cost of living crisis. They shared their thoughts on Twitter, with one of them calling the segment "insensitive".

One person tweeted earlier this morning: "Why the hell are #ThisMorning showing all these posh luxury homes of super rich celebs when [people] are struggling in the UK?"

Another said: "No one gives two shiney s****s about multi million pound homes when we are all struggling. How about some helpful DIY tips, or how to redecorate on a budget? Read the room".

"Seriously, there will be an advert about people not being able to afford to eat following this insensitive feature! Priorities please," commented a third viewer.

Another said: "This is just what we want to see when we're all poor as p***". A fifth viewer said: "Millionaire mansions, just the thing to remind you how p*** poor you are".

"It appears you're talking to the wrong demographic," said another. Whilst one said: "Seeing all those multi-million homes has sure made me feel better about this whole cost-of-living crisis".

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX from 10am.
