Vernon Kay has landed a big gig in Newcastle for the upcoming Northumberland Plate, after being very noticeably absent from This Morning, the show many viewers wanted him to host on a permanent basis.
After his intended debut as host of the ITV daytime programme was delayed in the summer of 2021, due to him contracting Covid, Vernon finally got to sit on the famous This Morning sofa later that year, with ITV viewers particularly fond of his presenting partnership with another popular host, Josie Gibson.
There were calls for the pair to be full time hosts of This Morning, long before Phillip Schofield announced he was leaving the show after 21 years. That news came as Holly Willoughby began her half term break a week earlier than intended and, when she returned to the studio on June 5, she began proceedings with a statement to viewers at home, addressing everything that had gone on.
After saying she felt 'troubled' and 'let down' by Phillip, Holly tried to assure viewers that everyone involved in This Morning would be working hard to make sure the 'magic' the show was famous for, would return.
However, while she mentioned Josie, as well as Dermot O'Leary, Alison Hammond and Craig Doyle, she never once mentioned Vernon's name, with viewers also noticing that Rochelle Humes was also missing from the speech.
The reason for Vernon not being mentioned is the fact that he now hosts the mid-morning show on BBC Radio 2, famously taking over from broadcasting legend Ken Bruce; meaning he is no longer available to do This Morning as well.
Well, although he might not be in the This Morning studio in the near future, former T4 and Family Fortunes star Vernon has got a date with Newcastle, as he will be guest DJ for a 90s themed night at the Racecourse, on the Friday night of the Northumberland Plate Festival.
Vernon will be on the decks for the evening race meeting, with the first of seven races going off at 4.55pm and the last one at 8.20pm.
As host of Radio 2's Dance Sounds of the 90s, Vernon is the perfect candidate to the the guest star at 90s Race Night and will be on the decks after the last horse has passed the post.
