This Morning's 'tummy-toning' segment slammed by viewers, who say ITV should promote body positivity

Viewers of This Morning have criticized the ITV show for a segment that it ran on how to get the 'perfect' body for summer. During Tuesday's (August 2) show, hosts Rochelle Humes and Vernon Kay were showed various exercises on how to 'tone [their] tummies' by an instructor. Love Island stars, Jay Younger and Billy Brown also appeared topless, showing viewers the results they can get.

The segment was slammed as "awkward" and "cringy" by one person, who wrote: "Awkward, cringey segment to titillate randy housewives with shirtless himbos, under the guise of building a 'beach body' months too late."

Another person took aim at the broadcaster, itself, and commented: "ITV; promotes body diversity, all body types are healthy Also ITV; Get off your couch and exercise you lazy *****"

This Morning's 'tummy-toning' segment was not a hit with viewers (ITV)

A third person wrote: "Beach body ready bs making its way back on tv. thought we were all body positive nowadays," whilst the segment aired. During which, host Vernon Kay tried a series of exercises to get 'perfect' abs. One viewer seemed concerned for the presenter's exercise attire and said: "Making Vernon exercise on the telly wearing skinny jeans … wtf give him a break."

"I’m sorry what decade is this, This Morning? The “get beach body ready” narrative is absolute BS. If you have a body, it’s ready for the beach. That’s all," someone else questioned.

Guest presenters, such as Vernon and Rochelle are currently sitting in for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, who have taken their annual summer holiday. In recent weeks, Alison Hammond & Dermot O'Leary and Josie Gibson & Craig Doyle have sat on the famous This Morning sofa - the latter of which were universally praised by viewers.

This Morning airs on weekdays on ITV from 10am
