This Morning’s Phillip Schofield shared details of being ‘scarred for life’ after a freak accident with an electric blanket when he was younger.
The ITV presenter co-hosted the programme alongside Holly Willoughby on Monday as the pair spoke with Alice Beer about keeping electrical heating appliances safe this winter.
The presenter held up an electric blanket, as she told ITV viewers sales of the cosy throws have risen by 500 percent this year, amid the energy crisis.
She said: “An electric blanket will heat your bed up for pennies. They are brilliant things because they stop you putting the heating on.”
However, she went on to warn viewers at home of the dangers in the appliances, as she said: “These are all wires all the way through. You’ve got to take them seriously.
“It’s a piece of electrical equipment. So if it’s seriously folded and folded and folded, you’re going to take a risk of damaging it.
“Look for scorch marks. Take it out and make sure it’s not folded in anyway.”
Phillip then cut in to share details of a scar he sustained to the top of his right leg in his early twenties after using an electric blanket while in New Zealand.
He said: “It was a loop in the electric blanket which I left on overnight while I was in there. I woke up thinking ‘Oh my god, ow, ow, ow.’ Luckily, no electric shock, but it scarred me for life on the top of my leg.”
Co-host Holly looked shocked by the tale, which she had clearly never heard from her longtime co-host and friend.
Alice then continued: “Please don’t buy a second-hand one. Make sure it's safe. Check the fuses. Unravel it and make sure it’s flat.”
She finally added: “Use it because it’s a brilliant cheap way to keep your heating down.”
This comes after Phillip addressed the scandal which saw him and co-star Holly accused of jumping the queue during the Queen's lying-in-state.
The This Morning presenters faced backlash after footage emerged of them appearing to dodge the queue to be whizzed through Westminster Hall.
Both Holly and Phillip denied that they queue jumped and insisted they were there for filming purposes – although he later claimed they were not allowed to film inside the hall.
Speaking on Dan Wootton's Tonight programme on GB News from his home, Phillip explained: "Why would I apologise? You've already seen that 700 other journalists did exactly the same thing."
After being asked whether he felt ‘vindicated’, the Dancing On Ice presenter added: "I think that it was a shame that what happened, happened."
