This Morning's Phillip Schofield startled as dog hijacks serious discussion on Ukraine

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left startled on Wednesday when a dog gatecrashed a This Morning discussion about the conflict in Ukraine.

After a delayed start to the show, due to an ITV news bulletin bringing the latest from eastern Europe, Holly and Phillip were joined by guests Camilla Tominey and Tom Swarbrink who joined the chat from his home in Kent via video call.

The quartet were exchanging opinions on the sanctions against Russia and if they were working and also horrified by photos appearing to show Russian children being 'arrested' for protesting against their country's invasion of Ukraine.

Commenting on Putin and those closest to him, Tom commented: "These are all former KGB people, they are completely paranoid at the best of times.

"And whispers in the Kremlin about mmmm maybe we need to get rid of the guy who's been sitting at the top of the table for the last 25 years, that's not an easy thing to do, that's not a short term fix.

"I hope that it would happen but, again, it feels like it's a very, very long way off."

As Tom started to talk about Russian troops, loud barking starting sounding out around him as his dog at home clearly became very irritated by something.

Phillip nearly jumped out of his skin, commenting: "I mean we're all on hind alert, but god!

As Holly and particularly Phillip, looked increasingly alarmed, a flustered Tom told them: "It's the postman," with Phillip replying: "I'm beginning to feel sorry for the postman!"

Tom added: "There's been a history, they dislike intensely," before, trying to move things on, Phillip remarked: "You sort the dog out, I just want to ask Camilla..."

Viewers at home were bemused by what happened, with one taking to Twitter to post: "What kind of dog is it? The hound of the Baskervilles???"

A second reacted: "What kind of demon dog?!?"
