This Morning's Phillip Schofield hit with nerves over big job away from show

Phillip Schofoeld had admitted he's been hit with nerves over a big presenting job he's preparing for away from This Morning.

After taking some time off for Easter and enjoying a star studded ski trip to the French Alps, Phillip has been back at work on the ITV daytime show over the past week, alongside regular presenting partner in crime Holly Willoughby. Tuesday's show saw Holly grant anonymity to callers looking to take part in a rather x-rated phone in, while, with Gino D'Acampo taking a break, they were joined in the kitchen by Gok Wan.

Another studio guest on Tuesday's This Morning was the show's resident sop expert, Sharon Marshall, as on hand to deliver a few plot teasers for the likes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale. And that is when talk turned to the return of the British Soap Awards.

The annual evens, which is always watched by millions of viewers and attended by the who's who of soap land, hasn't happened in three years, due to the coronavirus pandemic, with both the 2020 and 2022 ceremonies cancelled. However, it will return this year for the first time since 2019, with the long list of nominees now revealed and Phillip confirmed as host.

And, while he has had the job of Soap Award host for a number of years, given he's not done it in a few years, Phillip confided in Holly and Sharon that he's feeling rather nervous about it. Sharon joked: "Who's hosting it this year? Who could it be?" as Phillip replied: "I'm not sure. I've see him, he's very good."

Adopting a more serious tone, Phillip continued: "It's the first year back. It's a big show. It's back live after a big break. I was just watching there and thinking 'do you think you're going to be nervous?' I actually think I might be!"

Reassuring him, Sharon replied: "They're ever so lovely off screen," as Phillip told her: "The best audience ever without question!"
