This Morning's Phillip Schofield 'burst into tears' after surgery as he gives candid update

Phillip Schofield confessed he 'burst into tears in the aftermath of life-changing surgery on his eyes, after being plagued by a debilitating condition.

Phillip and Holly returned to the show for the first time in close to two months on Monday, making a late arrival to proceedings after their first day back started with a performance from the cast of Mary Poppins. During his and Holly's extended break for summer, which saw them replaced by a number of different guest hosts, Phillip went into hospital for surgery on both eyes after being blighted with 'floaters' which affected his vision.

As Phillip and Holly were joined by a medical expert in the studio, Phillip explained that the condition had caused difficulties for him when hosting Dancing on Ice, where the autocue screens are over the other side of the rink to where he and Holly stand to present the ITV show.

Phillip had two separate operations on his eyes during his This Morning absence and said the difference in his vision after the surgery was so great that he was left in tears in his own back garden.

"When I had them both done over the summer and the first time I lay in the garden, with a clear blue sky, I burst into tears, it was the most extraordinary thing, because, for the first time in decades, there was no rubbish in my vision."

Taking to Instagram last month, after the second operation, Phillip had a message for other people struggling with floater, saying: "If you have been told ‘just live with them’ that is not necessarily true, I’m sure there are exceptions, but they can be fixed."
