Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby called out This Morning's geographical blunder as they presented the ITV show today.
The pair were teasing an upcoming segment with Alison Hammond about her holiday to Portugal when Phil called out the show for making a geographical error as they read the autocue in front of them.
As they introduced an upcoming segment of Alison in Portugal, where she has been travelling around the best parts of the country, savouring the Portuguese food, and even taking part in a special singing event, Phil read from the autocue: "Alison showing off her singing talents whilst enjoying the Mediterranean sunshine."
However, he sensed something wasn't quite right with his statement.
"She'll be taking us," he added, before stopping himself in his tracks and remarking: "Portugal's not on the Mediterranean, is it?"
As Holly replied: "No it's not, no it's not."
"It's not on the Mediterranean. That's the Atlantic," he added, with Holly agreeing as she jokingly raised her hands up.
The whole studio erupted into laughter as the pair quipped about the geographical blunder. "Maybe she's not even in Portugal," Phil said as Holly laughed and said viewers at home would find out soon where she was.
After crossing over to Daisy, who was doing a spot of gardening for a segment, Phil referenced the error again.
Revealing what was happening backstage, he said: "There is a raging discussion going on right now whether or not Portugal is on the Mediterranean. Doesn't the Mediterranean start at Gibraltar?"
"I don't know," Holly admitted, "But I know it's the Atlantic!"
Later on in the show, as they prepared to air Alison's Portuguese segment, Phil revealed the debate was still rife - but they had finally found out the exact answer as whether Portugal was in the Mediterranean or not.
Giving an update, he shared: "This debate has continued over the break as you can imagine. We were right. Portugal is not on the Mediterranean coastline. There are 21 storylines and I've just read them all out - no one was listening - and I read them all out to myself, but it has a Mediterranean climate. And it's part of the Mediterranean Games Commission."
Holly then added: "I don't know what that is - but you don't dip your toe in the Mediterranean, do you?"
