This Morning's Phillip and Holly spark complaints seconds into show over Christmas decorations

It took just seconds of camera rolling on Wednesday's This Morning for complaints to come flooding in as Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby started the show by 'welcoming Christmas' into the studio, while others couldn't get enough of the set's festive makeover.

For some people, the minute Halloween is over, their thoughts turn to the festive season, pressing play on Mariah Carey and thinking when they can get the tree and decorations sorted, but, others think Christmas should remain in its box until at least December 1.

That meant that the sight of hosts Holly and Phillip standing in front of a Christmas tree when the date read Wednesday, November 2, was too much for some to stomach.

Holly looked very pleased with the festive feel to the This Morning set as she began: "Good morning! Now, yesterday we spoke about how with Halloween out of the way we are now on the countdown to Christmas." Phillip remarked: "Every year in the lead up to Christmas, we re-watch our favourite films, classic like Miracle on 34th Street, Santa Claus The Movie, Home Alone, Elf," with Holly interrupting: "The greatest of all time of course," before mentioning new film Spirited, a new musical comedy based on A Christmas Carol, which is set to delight families this Christmas.

While the sight of a twinkling Christmas tree was lapped up by plenty of viewers at home, the Scrooges who tuned in were quick to voice their disapproval on Twitter. One fumed: " @thismorning WHY ON EARTH is there a CHRISTMAS tree up at the start of NOVEMBER? OMG!"

Equally unimpressed, a second tweeted: " @thismorning bloody Christmas Tree it’s 2nd November for god sake," with a third posting: " @thismorning are you taking the p**s ? a Christmas tree it’s the 2nd of November for crying out loud."

Another commented: "2nd of November and they have a Christmas tree up @thismorning I'm still trying to say goodbye to my Halloween decorations."

However, for all those unwilling to get into the Christmas spirit early, others were more than happy to embrace some premature festive cheer, with one delighted viewer tweeting: " @thismorning omg no you do NOT have a Christmas tree up already this is fantastic." Equally as excited as Holly, another wrote: "I held out as long as I could…but I just had to put on the Christmas music this morning!!"
