Chaos erupted in the This Morning studio today as Josie Gibson and Dermot O'Leary were unable to get a word in edgeways. Ahead of the release of Prince Harry's memoir Spare next week, an excerpt from the bombshell book, in which Harry accuses his brother William of physically attacking him, has been leaked.
The Guardian published the details of the confrontation in an article today after obtaining a copy of the memoir, which has been kept under high security. The altercation is said to have taken place in 2019 at Nottingham Cottage, where Harry and Meghan were living at the time, and was sparked after Harry refuted his brother's claims that Meghan was 'difficult', 'rude' and 'abrasive'.
Harry writes in the book that things escalated when William 'grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor'. Harry alleges that he was left with a visible back injury as a result of the attack because he landed on the dog's bowl, which cracked and 'cut' into him.
In the wake of this bombshell revelation, This Morning presenters Josie Gibson and Dermot O'Leary welcomed three guests onto today's show to discuss the recent instalment of the Sussex-Windsor drama. Royal commentator and journalist Camilla Tominey, TV personality Vanessa Feltz and presenter Matthew Wright sat on the sofa opposite Dermot and Bristol's Josie, but things quickly descended into chaos.
Josie kicked off the conversation by saying that she 'doesn't agree' with Harry's decision to talk about William, something he said he'd 'never ever' do. She said to Camilla: "Meghan's dad went to the press absolutely slating her and I don't agree with anybody going to the press about family.
"Now, this was his brother and he's always said about William, 'I'd never ever say what he said', and then he's brought something quite private into the press."
Camilla then commented on the 'irony' of Harry's 'Thomas Markle-isation' due to the Duke's decision to appear on 60 Minutes to talk about his family. The journalist also claimed that it was 'really, really sad' to re-watch footage from Kate and William's wedding and see how close Harry used to be to his brother and sister-in-law.
After catching viewers up on the 'brotherly fisticuffs' that took place between Harry and William, Camilla said: "Kensington Palace aren’t commenting, Buckingham Palace aren’t commenting. The palaces approached all of this since Netflix [series] first landed just to say nothing, to have the Queen mantra of 'never complain, never explain'."
Matthew then interjected, quipping: "They got Jeremy Clarkson to do the work for them."
Shutting down Matthew's claim, Camilla said that the royal family were opting to keep a 'dignified silence'. He replied: "But Camilla [Queen Consort] has lunch with Jeremy Clarkson so you think, yes, they have to maintain it but let's not be naive, they are briefing people they do talk to people that's how royal stories come out. Your sources are within the royal family."
As Camilla hit back by claiming that royal sources can be very loosely connected to the family, for example, by providing their services at royal weddings, Josie could be heard trying to intervene as things became heated. The arguing rumbled on for around ten minutes.
Since This Morning aired, another damning revelation has been made about the Prince of Wales by author Tom Bower. The biographer has claimed in an updated version of his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors that William 'ordered' the RAF jet taking the royal family from London to Balmoral to leave without Harry in September 2022, on the day that the Queen passed away.
