Holly Willoughby wiped away tears during an emotional segment on This Morning as Phillip Schofield told viewers of an 11-year-old who fled war torn Ukraine on his own.
The ITV presenter was left emotional as co-host Phillip discussed the unfolding refugee crisis in Ukraine, as the UN reported two million people have now fled to neighbouring countries amid the Russian military assault.
Holly has three kids of her own - Harry, 12, Belle, 10, and Chester, seven, with her husband Dan Baldwin - and was visibly emotional as she heard how an 11-year-old travelled to the Slovakian border by himself.
Phillip told ITV viewers of the unnamed Ukrainian child: “He travelled 600 miles across the country to the Slovakian border by himself. He’s been reunited with relatives.
“He journeyed almost the entire width of the country with a plastic bag and a phone number written on his hand. His parents had to stay in Ukraine.
“Thanks to that number written on his hand, staff managed to contact relatives who came to meet him.”
This Morning guest Nicola Thorpe replied: “750 miles all alone as an 11-year-old and that was the best option for his mother, who’s a widow and was looking after an elderly relative.
“I don’t want to live in a world where this is the best option. Children should not be waiting, especially not on their own, at these borders.
“There are human traffickers operating now at the moment in Calais. I wish children could get here safely and then we figure out their paperwork.”
This comes after Holly was left similarly emotional during yesterday’s show, as she broke down in tears watching a clip of a young Ukrainian girl singing.
Speaking on the ITV show, Holly tried to contain her emotions as she said: "Despite the ongoing war, the resilience and morale amongst Ukrainian people remains extraordinarily high.
"We have seen many acts over the weekend, a newlywed military couple were pictured getting married on the Ukrainian front lines. Love finds a way, you wonder what their married life is going to look like, many of us are optimistic when we say those vows."
She added: "You sort of look at them there, and you think what life are they going into together."
Getting emotional, Holly then added: "There is such innocence, isn't there."
Guest Gyles Brandreth admitted: "We are seeing the worst of humanity and the best of humanity in this crisis, aren't we.”
