This Morning's Holly Willoughby steps in as jilted bride bursts into tears in studio

Holly Willoughby stepped in to comfort This Morning guest Kayley Stead during Monday's show, after the jilted bride burst into tears in the studio.

The ITV programme's first episode got off to an unexpected start, with Holly and her co-host Phillip Schofield having to explain why the iconic This Morning theme tune had been changed, before springing a massive surprise on their colleague Alison Hammond to mark her 20 years of working on the show.

Emotions then ran high as the presenting pair were joined by Kayley, the woman who has become an internet sensation after going ahead with her wedding reception as a single woman, after being jilted at the altar by the man she thought she was going to spend the rest of her life with. Kayley sat on the sofa opposite Phillip and Holly wearing her wedding dress, as she was joined by bridesmaids, also wearing the gowns they had on for the big day.

Kayley has been met with an outpouring of admiration on social media as people have praised her for her strength and positivity on what must have been an incredibly tough day. However, as she relived what happened, Kayley became visibly upset, with Holly reaching over to offer support.

Kayley revealed she was left panicked by her fiancé's whereabouts, as she told Holly and Phillip: "My main worry at that point was to make sure he was OK," before breaking down in tears as she tried to get words out.

Kayley continued: "And then I asked his dad 'can you just check on him," with Holly telling her: "You're doing so well," as Phillip handed Kayley a tissue.

Holly added: "Can I just say, there are many people who wouldn't even be able to put one foot in front of the other, so you're doing so well. You're stronger than all of us."

Composing herself and elaborating on what happened on what should have been the happiest day of her life, Kayley explained: "So his dad then rung me. His dad is straight to the fact, he's never going to tell me anything different, he's a frank man basically. And he just said 'Kayl, I'm sorry, he's safe, but he's four hours away."
