This Morning's Holly Willoughby left mortified by pancake World Record fail live on show

Holly Willoughby was left visibly embarrassed after she and Phillip Schofield tried and failed to break a pancake World Record on This Morning.

March 1 is of course Shrove Tuesday this year and the two ITV presenters got into the spirit of things by attempting to throw and catch the most pancakes in 60 seconds over a three metre distance in a segment they called 'Catch Me If You Pan'

Sadly for them, while the current record, held since 2009, stands at 46 pancakes in 60 seconds, Phillip and Holly managed just 12.

After a decent start to their attempt, Phillip and Holly, who remarked that the feat was "impossible," saw a few of their pancakes land on the floor as the clock ticked down.

On hearing that they'd only managed 20, a mortified and sheepish Holly reacted: "That was really bad wasn't it?"

Apologising to the Guinness World Records adjudicator who joined him and Holly in the studio, Phillip said: "Sorry about that, sorry to waste your morning!”

A tweet which appeared on the This Morning Twitter account revealed that Holly and Phillip had been practising away from the cameras before trying to break the record.

One seeing the pancakes fall to the floor, one unimpressed viewer tweeted: "Wasting food considering the current circumstances .. children going hungry !!!!!!" to which another swiftly replied: "ope you don't throw away any scrap of food then"
