This Morning's Fern Britton has taken to social media to show off a nasty injury she got while arranging a bunch of flowers.
The TV presenter posted a tweet showing off the damage to her thumb that she got from stabbing herself with a steak knife, warning her followers not to make the same mistake she had.
She had been trying to cut the string off that held the bunch of flowers together, but it all went wrong and she ended up cutting her thumb instead.
Wales Online reports that instead of taking a pair of scissors to cut the string off, she reached for the closest thing - which happened to be a sharp steak knife.
Posting a tweet of her wound with a plaster covering it, she said: “WARNING: Just stabbed my thumb. Using a steak knife instead of scissors to cut string around a bunch of flowers. Went in about a centimetre .
“Pulled it out and the inside looks like steak.. sorry are you having supper? Applied pressure, and held up.. not too bad now.”
Fans were quick to check that she was all right, with one follower Leanne saying: “Oh my days. Do you think you need to get it looked at ?” Fern replied: “I’ll let you know!”
Rachel Wilson had a similar experience and explained: “I once tried to open a wine bottle with a steak knife and stabbed my boob.” Fern was sympathetic, saying: “Owe.”
Martin Gerrard added: “Hope you didn’t swear Fern,” to which Fern replied with laughing emojis. Jim asked: “Hope you did not get to a tendon,” and Fern said: “I don’t think so x.”
The NHS warned: “Hmm, be careful as deep wounds at the base of the thumb have a habit of reopening as it’s quite a mobile area. Might be an idea to get it seen by a nurse at your surgery or local A&E, as 1cm can be quite deep for an area that size.”
