This Morning’s Dermot O’Leary has promised to walk his ITV co-host Alison Hammond down the aisle one day after a wedding-themed segment on Monday’s show.
The pair cackled as Alison, 47, came back from the ad break donning a white bridal veil ahead of a discussion about the popularity of ‘dogsmaids’ at weddings.
Dermot, 48, turned to Alison and told her she looked “beautiful” in the veil, before adding: “It will happen. One day I’m going to walk you down the aisle.”
Alison, who looked touched by the sentiment, said: “Really? Would you do that?”
Dermot replied: “Well I hope so. I would, but that’s not the issue. You need to find someone, get to know them.”
Alison then interrupted with a cheeky smile, saying: “There’s a few. I just don’t know which one to go for.”
Dermot channelled Bridgerton as he joked in response: “If I’m going to sort this dowry out, I need to meet these suitors.”
Alison Hammond found fame with her crazy antics on Big Brother in 2002 before becoming a much-loved regular on This Morning.
It was on the ITV show that a pregnant Alison had a scan all those years ago and discovered she was expecting her son Aiden with then-husband, Manchester cab driver Noureddine Boufaied.
Earlier in the show, Alison was left presenting This Morning alone as Dermot was missing - but he soon emerged in a tiny car as he drove into the studio.
As Lorraine host Ranvir Singh was ready to hand over to the pair, she was shocked to see an empty chair next to Alison.
The presenter explained that Dermot was running late and that he would hopefully be on the show soon.
Welcoming viewers to the show later, Alison was still alone as she said: "Hello, it's supposed to be me and Dermot, this is really embarrassing."
But soon afterwards, it emerged that Dermot was late because he was driving the world's smallest car into the studio.
Alison and Dermot are covering for Holly and Phillip over the Easter holidays, with Josie Gibson and Vernon Kay set to stand in on the ITV show next week.
On making a return to the This Morning sofa and co-hosting with Vernon again, Josie said she feels “very privileged, very honoured, and just can’t believe it’s happening”.
She continued: “I’m very thankful to all the This Morning team for letting me come back and host.
“As for Vernon, when they said I’d be hosting with Vernon again I screamed with excitement! What a legend.”
Meanwhile, co-host Vernon said he had “the most brilliant time” hosting This Morning with Josie before Christmas.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
