This Morning's Alison Hammond struggles with Welsh chef Michela Chiappa's name as she reveals she's been called 'chipolata'

This Morning host Alison Hammond had a heck of a night at the National Television Awards and on Friday morning's show, she struggled to pronounce Welsh-Italian chef, Michela Chiappa's last name leading to the inevitable giggling and a correction by This Morning co-host Dermot O'Leary.

Pronouncing Michela's surname with an extra Mc sound at the start, Alison said, on the October 14 edition: "Michela McChiappa is in the kitchen..." before Dermot took the mickey out of her pronunciation. He said: "Oh I love Michela McChiappa!" as he giggled.

Alison then told Dermot "it was a long night", referring to the National Television Awards the night before, while Dermot told her she always pronounced Michela's name wrong while laughing. Alison continued to struggle getting her tongue around Michela's surname, while both presenters giggled.

Michela took the pronunciation faux pas in good spirits and was appearing on the show to cook a roast chicken dish. During her segment revealed that she was once called "chipolata" when someone badly mispronounced her name. While Michela thanked Dermot for pronouncing her name correctly she said the presenters could "call me anything!"

She said: "Call me anything! Call me Frankfurter, whatever you like! I've been called chipolata, Michela chipolata." while Alison burst into laughter. Michela is a Welsh-Italian chef from Merthyr Tydfil and has two cookbooks Simply Italian and Baby at the Table. She's also fronted several cookery shows including Simply Italian and Michela's Tuscan Kitchen.

Michela shares recipes and pictures of her family, including her two young daughters, on her Instagram and often appeared on This Morning for the cooking segment. Both Alison and Dermot had a big night on Thursday, October 13 as they attended the National Television Awards.

Alison was nominated for a National Television Award herself, for the best presenter award, but lost out to Ant and Dec, who scooped the award for the 21st year running. Dermot admitted on the show that he was feeling a little bit delicate after the awards.
