Alison Hammond became emotional during a This Morning discussion of the ongoing Phillip Schofield situation, saying she did not want to 'see any death' as a result of the fallout from the former presenter's confession of an 'unwise' affair with a younger man and subsequent quitting of the ITV show.
The ITV1 morning show has been the centre of attention since Schofield quit the show following the revelations and the veteran presenter now spoken out about the situation, with BBC's Amol Rajan, saying the fallout from the revelations had been “relentless” and urged the media to leave his former lover “alone now," more on that, here.
Alison became very emotional while she, Dermot O'Leary and Gyles Brandreth and Sonia Sodha discussed his interview and Phillip's mental health. Opening the segment, O'Leary said: "It’s the top story today and we don’t want to shy away from it...very difficult to cover this as he’s a friend and a colleague."
After showing clips of the interview the camera returned to very emotional Alison. Through her tears, she said: "I am just finding it really painful but obviously, I loved Phillip Schofield and it's weird because I still love Phillip Scofield however what he has done is wrong, he's admitted it, he said sorry. As a family, we are all really struggling to process everything."

While discussing Phillip, Alison appeared to be very worried for Phillip. She said: "There is so much a man can take, there is so much and I don't want any death in this situation." as they discussed how Phillip must be feeling during this time.
Alison added that she is using her mum's advice and following words from the Bible to help her through the situation. She said: "In the Bible, it says he without sin cast the first stone and I just don't want to say anything bad because obviously we are in conflict."
Speaking to the BBC, Schofield told of the criticism he has faced since admitting the affair, saying: “Do you want me to die? Because that’s where I am.”
He said: “It is relentless, and it is day after day, after day after day. “If you don’t think that that is going to have the most catastrophic effect on someone’s mind… do want me to die? Because that’s where I am.
“I have lost everything.”
Phillip Schofield said he sees “nothing ahead of me but blackness and sadness” following the fallout from his secret affair.
“I’m not in television any more, I don’t know what I am even remotely if I get through this,” he told the BBC.
