This Morning's Alison Hammond 'interrupts' phone-in to offer defiant advice to dejected caller

Alison Hammond 'interrupted' a This Morning phone-in on Friday, with an urgent bit of advice for a caller who rang up completely fed up at being 'ghosted' by dates.

As the ITV daytime show came to an end for another week, Alison and co-host Dermot O'Leary took over hosting duties from Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, with the duo joined by a whole host of guests including the cast of Strictly Ballroom, acting legend Bill Nighy and boyband Backstreet Boys. Two other guests on Friday's edition of This Morning were regular contributors Gyles Brandreth and Carol Vorderman, who have become the programme's rather unlikely dating experts.

Broadcaster and writer Gyles and Countdown icon and Pride of Britain host Carol joined Alison and Dermot to host another instalment of their 'Love Clinic,' taking calls from viewers after some dating advice. One of those callers was a lady in here 40s, called Niki, who explained that she was becoming more and more dejected at being 'ghosted' by dates, with her blaming her disability for their lack of interest.

Nikki explained that, while she had been open and honest with potential suitors about her disability from the get-go, once they'd met her in person and 'seen the walking stick or crutches' they weren't interested. On hearing Nikki's downbeat tone, Alison jumped in before phone-in hosts Carol and Gyles had a chance to reply, telling Nikki: "That's a good thing, because they were the wrong ones. They weren't for you, as far as I'm concerned. If they blocked you and got rid, they weren't the right ones..." before, realising she was treading on her colleagues' toes, added: "It's not me who's doing this; Date Busters...what am I doing? I'm getting carried away!"

Taking over, Carol responded: "You're absolutely right, completely right. And Nikki, there is a lot of cruelty out there on the dating apps and online relationships are OK to a certain level, but obviously you are looking for somebody who is kind and kind hearted and who will be good company. And I think those are the things to concentrate on first."
