This Morning's Alison Hammond forced to present alone as Dermot O'Leary missing

This Morning's Alison Hammond took the helm of the show alone for a while today.

As Lorraine host Ranvir Singh was ready to hand over to the ITV show, expecting to see Alison joined by her co-host Dermot O'Leary, she was shocked to see an empty chair next to Alison instead. It was explained that Dermot was running late but was expected to be on the show later.

Once This Morning had started properly, Alison was still alone. She welcomed viewers to the show as she said: "Hello, it's supposed to be me and Dermot, this is really embarrassing."

Not long after, Dermot finally emerged - while driving the world's smallest car. As he rode the tiny blue car onto the set, Alison said: "I can't believe this, you're so extra... you know what the weird thing is? This looks like your normal car."

Dermot replied: "Morning everyone, hope you're well... we thought we'd show the world's smallest and most economical car!" He climbed out of the comically small car as he joined Alison to present the rest of the show.

Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Dermot's grand entrance. Sharon wasn't impressed as she said: "Why are Dermot & Alison pretending that he’s not been there at the studios rehearsing all morning? #thismorning"

Tina said: "#ThisMorning I’d like to have seen Alison in the car!" Meanwhile, Albi said: "What shall we feature today? How about a small car? #thismorning"

Weekdays normally see Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby presenting This Morning. However, Alison and Dermot are covering for Holly and Phil over the Easter holidays, as Kate Garraway also stood in for Susanna Reid over on Good Morning Britain.

Next week, Josie Gibson and Vernon Kay will be appearing on the show from Monday to Thursday. Alison and Dermot will be back on Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday.
