This Morning's Alison Hammond broke down in tears as her co-star Gok Wan's brave niece revealed she is in remission from cancer.
The fashion designer and TV star shaved his head on the ITV show earlier this year in support of his cousin, who was undergoing chemotherapy at the time. He raised over £50,000 for the charity, Young Lives Vs Cancer, after his cousin's daughter, 12, received a shock diagnosis of Leukaemia, leaving the whole family devastated.
However, Alyssa never lost hope and a new revolutionary treatment was given, meaning she is now in remission. She appeared on This Morning today with her mum and Gok, as they spoke about the diagnosis and treatment.
At the end of the segment, Alyssa wanted to thank a long list of people for what they'd done for her including her brother who FaceTimed her every night when she was in hospital and tried to keep thinks as normal for them all.
It was then for Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary to give her a surprise too, but she could barely get through her sentence as she broke down in tears and praised Alyssa for her strength amid everything that was going on.
As Alison tried to gift Alyssa a Harry Potter wand, she broke down in tears and said she couldn't go on.
Eventually, they managed to give her the wand and Alyssa was overjoyed with her present, as they thanked her for being so brave and positive amid her diagnosis and wished for only good news going forward.
Fans of the show were also in tears and praised Alyssa's bravery, with one writing: "I’m in tears! Alissa on this morning what a courageous young lady so strong and brave her family must be so proud #ThisMorning."
A second shared: "Aaaaw Alyssa - crying here as I’m so happy that you are cured sweet darling. Enjoy your Christmas! @therealgokwan @thismorning #ThisMorning," as a third shared: "OMG, not often an item on #ThisMorning has me moved like this, but Gok's beautiful relative beating leukaemia, and voicing so eloquently how thankful she is. What an amazing young lady!"
At the time, he penned an emotional post, which read: "Please meet Alyssa (my cousin’s daughter). Alyssa is 12 years old and 3 weeks ago she was diagnosed with Leukaemia. As you can imagine this news has been a huge shock and a really scary.
"On Wednesday Alyssa made the brave decision to shave off her hair as the treatment has already started to make her hair fall out. I think you’ll all agree she looks just as beautiful, if not more! To show my support to her and the many people who are undoing Cancer treatment I have decided to cut my hair off too and raise as much money as possible for the incredible charity who help young people like Alyssa and their families. My wonderful family @thismorning have agreed for me to cut my hair off live on the show on Thursday 24th June. Please join us and let’s raise as much money as possible for families and young people who really need our support."
