Alison Hammond broke down at seeing a musical guest fill a Julie Andrews role.
Alison Hammond let her emotions get the best of her as a musical guest left her feeling overwhelmed. The presenter welcomed the stage cast of My Fair Lady who gave This Morning viewers a first look at the new show, performing Wouldn't It Be Lovely outside of the ITV studios.
The performance left a lasting impression on the 47-year-old as she broke down in tears at seeing a black performer cast as Julie Andrews. The Broadway role was first played by Julie, followed by the on-screen adaptation with Audrey Hepburn as the lead, and since has been played exclusively by white performers until now.

Struggling to contain herself, Alison let the emotions flow as she said: "I'm so emotional. I can't believe how emotional I am after watching that. Seeing another black woman in that role which I've watched since I was a child I never thought I'd ever see anything like that.
"It's such a gift you don't realise. Doing that role and the representation it means for people like me, honestly, it's wonderful. Such a beautiful performance."
She urged Dermot to take the reins of the show as she gathered herself, wiping away tears. My Fair Lady's lead, Amara Okereke, explained how much the role meant to her and that she was grateful for all the support she's received. She said: "It's emotional to say the least. I think [my family] are just reassured I have a job but they're always so proud and supportive."
Alison laughed off the sudden wave of emotions as she said: "Keep doing what you're doing, its absolutely amazing. I'm so extra and I'm such an ugly crier."
