This Morning's Alison Hammond apologises to viewers as co-host Dermot O'Leary accidentally swears live on air

This Morning's Alison Hammond was forced to apologise to viewers after co-host Dermot O'Leary accidentally swore live on air on Monday, July 18. The pair, who usually present the ITV show on a Friday, are currently sitting in for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby whilst they are on their summer holidays.

The accidental comment came after Alison showed Dermot footage of him presenting Big Brother's Little Brother in 2001. She told him: "Look at you with a bald head. You should so go back to a bald head. Why don't you shave your hair off? Look how fit you look." He quickly responded: "Let's call my wife now and see if she'd like me to shave my hair off."

Alison told Dermot: "You were so good at that show," to which he replied, "Just at that show?" and she agreed, as the pair burst into laughter. In the heat of the moment, Dermot could be heard saying: "You are such a b****," before Alison apologised for his comments.

Viewers quickly took to social media to clarify what they had heard. One person said: "So funny these two I have to press rewind on my TV. Love them cheer me up so much when they are on."

Viewers couldn't quite believe what they heard Dermot call Alison (ITV)

Another person hit back at Dermot: "That really wasn't very nice of @radioleary calling @AlisonHammond a 'B****' on live breakfast TV, maybe you need to install a beep machine. They both looked shocked and embarrassed."

Elsewhere, someone commented: "Dermot is out of order calling Alison a b**** !!! She apologised but he hasn't"

There have previously been rumours of a rift between Alison and Dermot, prompting ITV to respond to The Mirror: "Despite the challenges of starting their on-screen partnership during a pandemic, Alison and Dermot have developed a firm friendship and their chemistry has proved a ratings success."

This Morning airs on weekdays from 10am on ITV
