This Morning's Alison and Dermot confirm host shake-up on show as Holly and Phillip take break

Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary will be main presenters on This Morning next week as Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield take a break from the show.

There's been an ever changing line-up of presenters on the award winning show, due to the fact that Holly took a break to film a new series for the BBC and then Phillip got coronavirus.

Initially, Holly was only meant to be off This Morning for two weeks, but then ended up being two and a half weeks.

And then, just days before she was due to be back in the studio, friend and co-host Phillip revealed he'd tested positive for Covid-19.

Their absences gave bosses a presenter line-up headache, with Rochelle Humes coming in for Holly and the likes of Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary, Vernon Kay and Josie Gibson, also on the show in the space of a week.

As Holly celebrated her 41st birthday live on Thursday's This Morning, she and Phillip revealed to viewers watching at home that they'd be taking a break, with daily game show Spin to Win also being put on hold for a week.

Their announcement sparked speculation from fans online as to who'd be standing in for them this time.

Over the last year, it had been the job of Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes to be holiday cover for Holly and Phillip, but Eamonn has since quit ITV for a job on GB News.

On Friday a This Morning spokesperson told Chronicle Live: "Phillip and Holly will be off for half term as usual, and Alison and Dermot will be hosting the show next week."

And then Alison and Dermot delighted at breaking the news to viewers as they wrapped up Friday's show, telling fans they'd be joined by former Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow on Monday.

Reacting with glee, one viewer took to Twitter to post: "YEA !! Dermot and Alison / Alison and Dermot !!!!!!!" while a second posted: "Alison n dermot next week," along with a smiley face emoji.

Not anywhere near as impressed, a third tweeted: "I prefer Josie over Alison, Rochelle or Dermot. What happened to Eamonn and Ruth????"
