This Morning plan emotional tribute to 'superfan' George Michael for his 60th birthday

This Morning is staging a heartfelt tribute to superfan George Michael ahead of what would have been his 60th birthday this Sunday.

The late singer – an avid watcher of the ITV daytime show – will be remembered on Friday.

George would often ring the show and once secretly paid for a viewer’s IVF treatment after learning about her plight while watching.

The star identified himself as a businessman and only revealed his identity in a small congratulations card to Jo Maidment shortly after her daughter Betsy was born in 2012.

Jo is set to take part in Friday’s show along with Betsy, and George’s long-time boyfriend Kenny Goss.

Singer Calum Scott will perform a George Michael classic.

George also anonymously donated £50,000 to a This Morning Christmas appeal, when it was hosted by Richard Madeley and wife Judy Finnigan. He later struck up a friendship with Richard.

The show will be hosted by usual Friday presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

A source close to the show said: “George was a big fan of This Morning and with both Alison and Dermot being such huge music fans – particularly of the 80s and 90s – they are sure to provide a fun show.

“Viewers will be reminded of some of the heart-warming moments George did on This Morning, a look back at his career and legacy.”

Though several parts of the show will be dedicated to the singer, there will be non-George segments too.

George died of natural causes on Christmas Day 2016 after suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.

Jo’s first round of IVF resulted in miscarriage and George anonymously sent flowers from himself and his personal assistant.

However the next year Jo used the frozen embryos from their first round and successfully gave birth to Betsy, who became the “This Morning miracle baby”.
