This Morning fans question Eastenders' Laurie Brett's accent as the Beales reunite

An Eastenders power couple reunited on This Morning today ahead of an upcoming stage appearance together.

Ian Beale, played by Adam Woodyatt, and Jane Beale, played by Laurie Brett, sat on the sofa to tell Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary all about their latest project.

After previously working together for 18 years on the BBC soap, the actors will be co-starring in a stage play called Looking Good Dead by Peter James.

The play sees Tom Bryce, played by Adam, inadvertently become a witness to a vicious murder but reporting the crime to the police has disastrous consequences, placing him and his family in grave danger.

Laurie will be playing Tom's family member, Kelly Bryce in the on-stage murder mystery.

Talking about working with Laurie once more, Adam said: "It's like putting on a comfortable pair of old slippers."

Alison pointed out that the characters they are currently playing are nothing like the characters that people are used to seeing on Eastenders.

Laurie agreed, as she said: "It'd be easy to say 'oh you're just seeing Ian and Jane on stage'. We look the same, and sound the same but these characters are very different. The dynamic of the family and of the relationship is entirely different.

"It's very different to not look like yourself."

Dermot asked what it's like for them to be on stage every night in front of a live audience.

Laurie replied: "It's great to be back in the theatre. People have really missed it and I didn't realise how much. But people are loving it."

As they excitedly spoke about their new opportunity, fans of This Morning couldn't help but be distracted and took to Twitter.

Blossom said: "#ThisMorning Laurie was born in Hamilton Scotland, so where's the accent then? Is she doing a John Barowman?"

Craig said: "Hang on, what’s happened to Laurie’s real life Scottish accent? #ThisMorning"

Another user said: "Why is Jane talking like David Tennant's Doctor Who? I thought she was Scottish? #ThisMorning"

While most people know Laurie as having an East End accent, the star is actually Scottish born.
