This Morning fans fume at ‘vile’ Matthew Wright after blistering criticism of the Queen

This Morning fans have described ITV guest Matthew Wright as “vile” after the broadcaster launched a scathing attack on the Queen, telling viewers of his frank “republican” views.

The former The Wright Stuff host, 56, did not hold back as he discussed the upcoming book from Queen Elizabeth’s close aide with This Morning hosts Josie Gibson and Vernon Kay, as well as journalist Camilla Tominey.

As Matthew heard that the Queen's loyal aide Angela Kelly will re-publish her book, The Other Side Of The Coin: The Queen, The Dresser, and The Wardrobe, he was left unimpressed.

The book will be re-released with an additional segment on how the Royals coped in lockdown as well as the run-up for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.

Matthew particularly took issue with the 95-year-old monarch’s shoes being broken in by a dresser to make them more comfortable.

He said: “We pay for someone to walk a mile in the Queen’s shoes so her feet are more comfortable, while they languish in seven palaces with thousands of Ukrainians looking for homes.

“I’m sorry, I’m not some kind of feudal serf going around doffing their hat. I’m a republican and the notion the Queen has to have someone to break in her shoes for her.”

Fellow guest Camilla then cut in asking Matthew to “lighten up”, adding: “You’re making us even more depressed than we already have been.”

Matthew then exclaimed: “Seven places! Seven! How many do you need?”

Camilla replied: “She’s working well beyond retirement age, she hasn’t been that well lately and she’s got mobility issues.”

Yet Matthew was less than impressed and told viewers they were getting a “soft spin on how wonderful the Royals are.”

He continued: “It's people in ivory towers spending our taxes.”

But ITV viewers were not taken with his ferocious attack on the 95-year-old monarch and took to Twitter to respond.

One simply wrote: “Shut up Matthew!!!” as another posted: “Shut up Matthew. Stop criticising our Queen!”

Another tweeted: “And now he’s dissing the Queen? You vile pig Matthew Wright.”

Another commented: “Bore off Matthew. Seriously, like a broken record.”

One then followed: “Alright Matthew you don’t like the royals we get it.”

This comes after it was confirmed that Meghan Markle will join Prince Harry at the Invictus Games which begin in the Netherlands this weekend.

The international competition will take place in The Hague from April 16 to 22 after being delayed by the pandemic.

Harry founded the games to aid the rehabilitation of injured or sick military personnel and veterans from across the globe, by giving them the challenge of competing in sporting events similar to the Paralympics.

It comes after The Mirror last week revealed that the couple would be followed by a Netflix documentary crew throughout the Games.
