This Morning viewers were left in despair as the ITV show aired a CPR segment to educate those in need of emergency services amid the NHS crisis.
Hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield touched on the dire state of the NHS's ambulance service as they introduced the segment with the ITV programme’s GPs.
Dr Philippa and Dr Sara proceeded to give a CPR demonstration on the floor of the ITV studio in what the programme described as a ‘Health Special’ amid the NHS crisis.
As response times in England have nose-dived in recent months, Holly asked Dr Philippa what was causing the delays, to which she said it was a combination of factors.
She said: “It’s everything from high circulating numbers of flu, Covid and strep throat, with lots respiratory viruses, backlogs from the pandemic – we’ve got billions of people on waiting lists – plus tens of thousands of shortages of doctors, nurses and healthcare staff.”
This Morning then urged viewers to understand the process of providing first aid given the waiting times for paramedics to arrive after a 999 call.
Yet This Morning viewers at home seemed largely disturbed by the segment, with several labelling it ‘patronising’ as well as an indicator of ‘worrying times’ in the UK.
Taking to Twitter, one wrote: “This is patronising. What we need is more access to GPs, mine is brilliant, thousands aren’t, and for the Govt to actually recognise that the NHS is in crisis and do something about it at their end.”
A second added: “We are one of the richest countries in the world and we now have Drs on This Morning telling us what to do whilst you are waiting literally hours for an ambulance!”
A third outraged viewer wrote: “What the hell is this DIY health care,” as another asked: “What’s next? How to defibrillate yourself?”
One viewer added: “I can't believe what I'm seeing DIY emergency life-saving information on morning tv. FOR F****'S sake this Tory government sort it out. Before more people lose their lives.”
“What a state this nation is in,” another viewer penned as one added: “This is so patronising. How about actually dealing with the s***show. I can't believe it's come to this.”
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
