Airing on Channel 4 24 Hours in Police Custody shows the reality and truth behind real crimes. One episode showed Adam White who spent months in prison after chasing two burglars away from his home before hitting them with his car. Now Adam, and his wife Lindsay, have appeared on This Morning after his release from jail and joining them was a former senior police detective who backed the couple, saying it was unfair he was jailed while the pair who attempted to burgle his home had suspended sentences.
Adam was the victim of an attempted burglary at his but was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, found guilty at his trial and sentenced to 22 months in prison, after he chased the would-be- burglars and crashed into them as they fled on a motorbike. They, Taylor Benford and Ryan Paul, were given suspended sentences and now a former Detective Chief Superintendent has said "it's not right" that Adam was given a prison sentence and the other two only a suspended sentence.

Speaking on the ITV morning show This Morning former Detective Chief Superintendent Sue Hill said: "Even as an ex-police officer...what on earth are we doing when we put someone like him in prison and the two scallywags, I can think of other names that I can't use, that they are wandering around...they can carry on, on their benefits having a mass production of children so they can keep going and causing more criminality."
The former Metropolitan police officer turned media personality added: "I'm sorry but I just get so saddened and angry...these people are out there committing crime and they got away with it...it can't be right, can it?" Adam also appeared alongside Sue and said it was "a moment of madness" and described his arrest as "petrifying".
Elsewhere in the interview on This Morning, electrician, Adam and his wife, Lindsay, opened up about having an abortion shortly after the incident because they didn't know what was going to happen next. Holly Willoughby, 41, asked: ‘You were pregnant? Normally, for the pair of you, this would have been a joyous moment, but it wasn’t something you felt that you could enjoy. And it led to you making a decision, didn’t it?’
Mrs White replied: ‘We must have fallen pregnant days before the incident happened or a week maybe. And just kind of faced with that decision; people don’t understand it was the hardest decision we had to make. But he was told that he would face prison time for his charge, and it was a case of, can I survive on my own? Although there are parents out there that can, we already have two children, we’re supporting a mortgage and all the bills.’
Since the episode aired more than £140,000 has been raised on a GoFundMe appeal for Adam and his family. Many, like Sue, believed that Adam was just defending his family and did not believe he deserved to go to prison. One said: "I watched tonight and was shocked. In my opinion it should have never gone to trial. Not sure how long you served, but I would like to think it was cut short. Protecting your family is doing the right thing! Sending lots of love to you and your lovely wife Lindsay."
