This Morning doctor warns getting flu jab is 'more important than ever'

A doctor on This Morning has warned that getting a flu jab this winter is "more important than ever".

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about an expected rise in flu cases this winter, Dr Phillippa explained why getting the jab was so vital. She said that due to lock downs and mask wearing less people have suffered from the flu so that means that many will have less immunity to it this year.

Therefore the jab is important to ensure that everyone had the best chance of keeping themselves and others safe from the virus. The doctor also advised on other ways to prevent yourself from getting sick.

She said that the advice given for covid, for example washing hands frequently and always coughing or sneezing into a tissue, is guidance that we should be following all of the time anyway. Doing these things, don't just stop covid, they are also effective for preventing colds and flu too.

The health expert also offered advice on what to do if you're child became ill with a cold or flu. She said it's important if your child has a temperature to stay home, but it should only be for a few days.

She added that parents should treat the child and not the temperature. If they're still running around and playing but have a high temp they shouldn't need paracetamol. However, if they are lethargic and not themselves then they should be treated as soon as possible.
