'This marks the dawn of a new era': Sachin Tendulkar on cricket's inclusion in Olympics

NEW DELHI: Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar termed cricket's inclusion in Olympics as the dawn of a new era soon after the sport has been officially added to the program for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, marking a significant advancement in the global aspirations of the sport.

Alongside cricket, which will be contested in the T20 format, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), during its 141st session, also sanctioned the inclusion of other sports such as squash, baseball/softball, lacrosse, and flag football.

The proposal to incorporate these five sports, as recommended by the LA28 Organising Committee, faced opposition from only two out of the 99 IOC members.

Tendulkar took to social media platform 'X' formerly Twitter to share his feelings: "After a wait of more than a century, our beloved sport is back on the Olympic stage at @LA28. This marks the dawn of a new era for cricket as it will be a golden opportunity to foster inclusivity and showcase new talent from emerging cricketing nations. A start of something truly special!"

Meanwhile, the cricketing fraternity also shared their views on this historic decision.
