It’s no secret that former New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson is struggling to live up to the five-year, $82.5 million contract he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason.
Things got so bad that the former All-Pro defensive back got benched in the Chargers’ Monday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos. Considering we’re only six weeks into the season, the word bad might even be an understatement at this point when it comes to a player Los Angeles expects to be one of the cornerstones of their defense.
Patriots inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo must have been watching on Monday night because that’s the direction he took a media conversation in, when asked about former Patriots struggling to find success on other teams.
“This must be a J.C. reference,” said Mayo.
Jerod Mayo was asked about some Patriots players not having the same success after they leave New England.
Mayo: "This must be a J.C. (Jackson) reference."
Jackson is off to a rough start with the Chargers and was benched last night.

Ouch.
That has to sting for Jackson, who is looking like one of those players that can’t find their footing outside of coach Bill Belichick’s defensive system. Granted, there’s still time for him to turn things around as well.
But at this point, it’s safe to say that Patriots rookie corner Jack Jones has played better football this year than Jackson, who was on the books for a massive contract extension the Patriots were clearly better off not signing.
