Wild swimming is all the rage at the moment. Believers will extoll the benefits of its calming effect on the mind, and the relaxation your muscles feel.
They probably didn’t have the Valentine’s Dip in mind, though. It is the charity challenge from We Love MCR that will get hearts racing this February.
This year, its big event will see 150 people dive into a freezing cold Sale Water Park on February 18. It’s thought the water will be icy 3C on the day.

That’s not deterred Julie, who has already signed up. She said: “I have found a huge benefit to my mental health since cold water dipping, so the opportunity to do something I love which benefits me, to then benefit We Love MCR through fundraising, was a no brainer really. Plus doing it with others is always a huge thrill and buzz.
“I am hoping to raise more than the £150, but don’t hold me to it. I don’t have any particular fears about the challenge because I have been doing it for a while. However, I may need to buy a new swim costume if anything is being photographed.”
Professional training will be provided by experts accredited by Wim Hof, star of BBC show Freeze The Fear. They have expertise in breathwork and controlling the body’s response to cold water.
The “We Love MCR Valentine’s Dip” takes place on Saturday, February 18, and will be limited to just 150 places. The event fee is just £10, and Dippers are asked to raise a minimum of £150 in sponsorship.
