NFL free agency is set to begin next week, but with limited salary cap space, the Denver Broncos are not expected to make many splash signings.
The Broncos will make some signings this spring, but they will be calculated. While free agency could be dull in Denver, fans do have the NFL draft to look forward to next month.
Broncos coach Sean Payton recently revealed what he’s looking for in prospects in this year’s class.
“We are looking for goal-driven players and athletes that are unselfish to some degree,” Payton said at the combine on Feb. 27. “I would say one trait is that we use the term ‘grit’ a lot, but that ability to get up time and time again and overcome adversity.”
Payton did note that things have changed in recent years due to the transfer portal, but resilient players with “grit” can still be found in each draft class.
“It’s a little more challenging now with the portal,” Payton said. “I was thinking to myself how many times when I was in school would I have loved to have jumped into the portal [when I was] upset, disappointed, mad or whatever? Those traits still exist, and I think those are important traits when we are visiting with young athletes.”
The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.
