This is what Beeston residents would like to see replace town's old O2 shop

Shoppers in Beeston have had their say on what they would like to see replace the old O2 shop. The store in High Road closed on October 31.

Staff who had worked at the town's shop have since been relocated to different O2 stores. The nearest O2 shop to Beeston is now at Nottingham's Victoria Centre.

Before it was O2, the building was a florist. Now O2 signage has been taken away, a sign for the old 'Georgelle's Florist' can be seen.

Donna Lindon, 54, has lived in Beeston all her life. Currently working as a community nurse, Donna said: “I wasn’t surprised when O2 closed down - many places seem to be shutting left, right and centre.

"I’m guessing it will only really affect their customers. I’m not sure what I’d like to see reopen here, it could be anything.

“I think a local boutique or a shoe shop could go down well but no more barbers, as lovely as most of them are around here. We need no more in Beeston.”

Other major store closures recently in Beeston include Ottimo. The Italian restaurant will be shutting after just seven months.

Nadia Oliver, 34, is currently a full-time mum from Beeston. Nadia doesn’t mind what would replace the old O2 shop.

She said: “I don’t really mind what replaces the store - I think something for children would be nice like a toy shop or something like that.

"I always used to love the Early Learning store in the Victoria Centre. I always see kids in the area so for both them and parents a toy store could go down well.”

Phil Reed, 61, of Beeston, is now retired. He told us he would “rather not” see any more cafes.

He said: “We need no more cafes or restaurants. Places like that, I’d rather not see in Beeston.

“Whatever it turns into, I hope it survives - it’s never nice to hear of closures but it would be nice for a company like O2 to be replaced with another local independent business. That’s what anywhere needs more of."
