‘This is god’s work’: On Eid, a message of hope from Jama Masjid

At a time where newspapers are splashed with stories of communal violence and bitter tensions, Neha Bharti is trying to write a story of hope.

Every evening during Ramadan, Neha and her team distribute food to hundreds of Muslims breaking their fast at Jama Masjid. It’s a mission she started with her parents in 2021, and has now expanded to include dozens of well-wishers, contributing time, funds and resources.

“In our family, in our locality, we have never witnessed any Hindu-Muslim difference,” says her father Jai Prakash, “and that is what we have taught our children.”

And yet, despite the outpouring of support, Neha’s received multiple threats on social media. “No matter what you do, whatever kind of good deed it is, whether it’s food, clothes or something else – there will always be people who will criticise you,” she told Newslaundry

Because, as a member of her team says, “This is god’s work. And we are all for god’s work. It doesn’t matter that she is Hindu.”
