Martin Brundle and Megan Thee Stallion as seen on Sky Sports
(Picture: Sky Sports F1)Sky Sports’ Martin Brundle asked rapper Megan Thee Stallion for a “freestyle rap” on the F1 grid and it went down about as well as you would imagine.
As part of Brundle’s renowned pre-race grid walk segment, the former racing driver attempted to chat to Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete.
As the rapper approached, Brundle remarked: “That’s a very big bloke in front of her.”
Undeterred, he walked up to Megan to introduce himself and said: “Megan Thee Stallion you’re a freestyle rapper” before being cut off by the “big bloke” who intervened and motioned for Brundle to move away from Megan.
Megan batted her bodyguard off and Brundle said: “I think she’s happy.”

Brundle went on to ask: “Have you got any rap for us today on Formula One?”
Megan burst out laughing and said: “I have no rap today, I’m sorry.”
He then tried to ask who she was supporting in the race, before another man stepped in and spat: “You can’t do that.”
Brundle fired back: “I can do that because I did.”
Megan and her bodyguards continued walking while Brundle commented: “She seemed very happy to talk didn’t she? That was very nice of her and I appreciate that” before shrugging his shoulders and moving on.
The interview quickly went viral and divided social media. Some felt the encounter was cringe-worthy, whereas others praised his handling of the awkward situation:

Megan wasn’t the only star that proved elusive to Brundle yesterday. He also attempted to interview tennis legend Serena Williams but failed — twice.
Despite Brundle failing to chat with either Megan or Williams, fans were happy to see the F1 commentator’s pre-race grid walks return. The impromptu interviews, which are now a staple of the channel’s F1 coverage, were paused for two years due to the pandemic.
Brundle was reporting from yesterday’s 2021 United States Grand Prix in Texas which saw Max Verstappen hold off title rival Lewis Hamilton with just 1.3 seconds between them.
