Footage captured at a beach in North Queensland has shown beachgoers’ worst nightmare as a crocodile AND a bunch of sharks battle it out in shallow water.
With summer fast approaching, you’re all probably hanging to spend your days down by the water’s edge but let this video serve as inspiration to stay the hell inside because this is truly terrifying.
The video, uploaded by fisherman Vincent Bates, was captioned “crocodile and sharks battle for territory.”
In the video, the sharks can be seen circling the crocodile while both apex predators hunt for smaller prey.
The sharks can then be seen splashing violently in the water, appearing to try to scare the crocodile away.
To make matters even worse, another crocodile can be seen approaching the shore in the background.
Users flocked to the comments to express their fears.
“Definitely no swimming,” one commenter wrote.
“Pools for me,” another added.
According to the Humane Society International, the weird phenomenon is due to the fact that the animals have similar diets.
“Sharks and crocodiles do share habitat, but seeing something like that is a pretty awesome site to behold, but it’s certainly not out of the natural order,” Humane Society International’s Lauren Sandeman explained.
“They’re both marine predators and opportunistic at that, so they’ll eat what they can, when they can come and get around it.”
In an interview with Yahoo Australia, Sandeman joked that she wasn’t too keen on a dip in the water in Far North Queensland.
“Certainly up in Far North Queensland — I’m happy to just look at the ocean,” she joked.
Regardless of the reason behind the weird sighting, it is certainly enough to keep me out of the water for the foreseeable future.
