This Facebook group is doing important business by monitoring the size of chip portions at Wetherspoon pubs

A Facebook group is doing important work by keeping track of the size of chip portions in different Wetherspoons pubs.

The group, called Wetherspoons paltry chip count, has 39,100 members and chronicles the apparent variation in chip servings in pubs, and even posts weekly statistics crunching the figures they have collected.

One person said she had received 18 chips in her portion but said some were like “little toenails” so she really had around 10 that were adequately sized.

Another said he couldn’t “complain” as he had received 32 chips in his portion, though he wasn’t as impressed with the eggs it came with.

But another who got “12 or 13” found the experience “pitiful”.

And a fourth poster was disappointed with “25 of the smallest chips I’ve ever seen”.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “A few years back Wetherspoon carpets were all the rage on Facebook, so it’s probably no surprise that someone has now started a chip account.

“All pubs should serve the same weight of chips, but the number of chips might vary depending on the size of chip.”

Indy100 has also contacted the pub chain to comment.
