This Electric Dual-Sport Looks Like Tons of Fun, But Is Made for the City

There’s something brewing in the world of e-mobility—and it’s not just another wave of e-scooters or futuristic superbikes priced like small condos. As cities get tighter and environmental pressure stacks up, the next big thing isn’t necessarily bigger. It might actually be smaller, simpler, and smarter.

And that’s where a bike like the Dirtfreak GE-N3 from Japanese e-mobility manufacturer Yotsuba wheelies in—quietly, efficiently, and with a vibe that feels nostalgic yet forward-thinking, but perhaps most importantly, fun.

So what’s the GE-N3? Well, think of it as a super light, electric trail bike that just so happens to be road legal. We’re talking 58 kilograms (around 127 pounds)—barely heavier than some fancy electric mountain bikes—but with a punchy 2.8 kW (around 3.75 horsepower) peak output and a 72V battery under its skin. Its top speed is just a hair under 35 miles per hour. Not blistering, but more than enough for buzzing through traffic, heading out for coffee, or even carving a trail on a weekend ride.

It’s got that go anywhere dual-sport energy, just without the gas fumes and the braaap.

The seat sits at 790 mm, which keeps things approachable, and the geometry is upright and relaxed. Off-road capable Kenda tires, a sturdy aluminum frame, and a full charge range of up to 60 miles at low speeds make it feel more useful than your average e-scooter. Plus, it looks cool in that low-key, minimalist way—available in Blue Gray or Antique Green, and styled like a rugged tool rather than a flashy toy.

It’s so stylish and practical that it even picked up a 2024 Good Design Award, which says a lot about how serious the design community is taking this machine.

But here’s the twist: the GE-N3 isn’t trying to replace your car or even your full-sized motorcycle. It’s carving out its own lane, somewhere between utility and play, between city and countryside. It's the kind of bike that makes you rethink how much “vehicle” you actually need in your life. For short trips, errands, or off-road fun, this might be all you really need.

Looking forward, bikes like the GE-N3 hint at a future where mobility gets decentralized. We may not all end up in self-driving cars—some of us might just hop on ultra-efficient electric two-wheelers that are simple, rugged, and kind of fun. If this is what the e-mobility revolution looks like, well we’re in for a pretty cool ride.
