A Wirral motorist crashed into a litter bin - after mistakenly believing that the car they were driving was in reverse gear.
An image shared by Merseyside Police shows a blue Mazda hatchback after it crashed onto the pavement on Upton Road in Moreton. Extensive damage is clearly visible both to the vehicle and items on the roadside.
Police confirmed on social media that the incident was a "damage only" collision and no injuries appear to have been reported.

In a tweet sent at 10:20pm on Sunday (May 8), Merseyside Police wrote: "#syn3 patrols have been dealing with this damage only collision in Moreton. Driver of this vehicle thought they were in reverse when setting off….."
