PUNE: The third and last Happy Streets event in Kothrud for this season on Sunday morning saw a huge response from the citizens.
Zumba, clay modelling and the drum circle were key attractions for the programme. Happy Streets is an initiative by The Times of India and Maharashtra Times which encourages people to use non-motorised transport. It appeals to citizens to come out on the streets to socialize every Sunday morning through a wide array of activities.
One side of the DP in Kothrud was blocked, and turned into a free space where one could walk, jog, cycle or just stroll around with friends and family or rediscover the simple pleasures of playing different games. The event is organised in association with Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune police and Pune traffic police. It is sponsored by Vilas Javdekar Developers.
Activities like Zumba, yoga, meditation, taekwondo, kickboxing, skating, badminton and singing got a huge response from children, youngsters and senior citizens.
“The event is amazing. We have enjoyed different games here and the activities are superb,” Atharva Pawar, a young person, said. College student Aryan Kulkarni found zumba interesting. “The crowd here was good. Now, I have become a regular visitor to this event,” he added.
Sunday mornings have become lively due to this event, said local resident Atul Gulvankar. “I come with my family. including two daughters, for this gathering,” he added.
Others said Happy Streets brought back the joy of living. “More such events should be organised. “It has given people a platform to come together and have fun. I have come here with my friends,” Mihir Sabnis, a student, said.
