A leading figure in northern Lincolnshire’s agricultural community has passed away.
Third generation chairman of farming machinery specialists Peacock & Binnington, Michael Peacock, has died, just a few weeks short of his 90th birthday.
He joined the Brigg headquartered business co-founded by his grandfather in 1957, taking over from his father as managing director in 1968. He became chairman around the turn of the century, and was made life president last month as son Nick, a practising barrister, took the reins.

In a joint statement, Nick, together with siblings Tim and Sophie, said: “Dad was the wind in the sails of Peacock & Binnington for almost all of his adult life. His roots were in the agricultural community of North Lincolnshire and, although he travelled the globe over his lifetime, his home and heart were always here.
“He loved his wife of 56 years, Dinah, his children and his grandchildren, Harriet, Lucy, Cecily, Alex, Sam and Jacob, and of course he loved P&B - whose course he steered for many decades - its customers and staff.”
Mr Peacock died at his home in North Kelsey, where he had lived for well over 50 years. “He lived a great life,” the family added.
Outside of Brigg the business has branches in Kirby Misperton, Selby and Halsham in Yorkshire, with Corringham and Louth in Lincolnshire. It is now a £90 million turnover operation employing 165 people, and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2019.
A small funeral for family and close friends is being planned, with a memorial service to follow to “celebrate a life well lived”.
