Think pink: why bubblegum pink blazers are big news this summer

In recent years, fashion has become a champion of tonal and monochromatic dressing.

After all, the endeavour of building and meticulously orchestrating a capsule wardrobe is simplified by relying on a rotation of just three colours, namely black, white and beige.

So it's with trepidation that I come bearing news from the fashion stratosphere about the prevalence of the pink blazer because this summer - while you may not have thought a blush-hued addition to your tonal wardrobe was on the cards - it's time you think pink.

Indeed, this season we need to take our cues from the hoard of influencers that have been sporting their bubblegum blazers (from Emili Sindlev to Leonie Hanne) and treat ourselves to one. See it as an homage to your tipple of choice (a glass of Whispering Angel, if you're ordering.)

Jacquemus SS20 (IMAXtree)

The man we have to thank for this injection of fuchsia goodness? Simon Porte Jacquemus, the brains behind cult French brand Jacquemus, who incorporated pink blazers and suiting into his SS20 collection (which was set against the idyllic backdrop of a lavender field in the South of France, no less.)

The David Hockney-inspired collection saw Jacquemus churn out variations of the shade, from boxy bubblegum blazers to fuchsia flares, but it's the oversized blazers which have really caught on.

It may seem like a Rubik's Cube of an item to style, but rocking your Peptobismol pink blazer couldn't be simpler. Pair it with a pair of baby blue Levi's 501s and a white tank top, or throw it on over a slinky slip as a certified nod to the nineties.

Whatever you do, just make sure yours is at least two sizes too big, opt for it in easy, breezy, summer-friendly fabrics (ideally linen) and keep the rest of your ensemble pared-back and tonal. Et voila! Flamboyant femininity personified.
