Things you'll only know if you commute to Belfast for work

For many of us, commuting to Belfast for work or education is a necessary evil. It’s not always easy, but it is something that we have to do almost every day of the week.

And chances are you'll encounter the same people every day whether you're on the M1, M2, Westlink, Sydenham Bypass or another popular route to the city. You'll meet all sorts, from erratic drivers to those who seem in no rush at all as they hog the overtaking lane doing way below the speed limit.

From the 'Tail gater' to the 'Lane hogger' we bet you'll recognise these familiar (and annoying) fellow commuters as you make your way to the city every day.

Let us know if we've missed any in the comments below.

1. The Lane Hogger

Sticking to the middle lane or the outside lane and driving at a snail's pace is the most infuriating motorway habit. These people have no intention of moving into slow lane, and instead, just sit there, not allowing other cars to pass them safely.

2. The Tail Gater

Equally as annoying as the lane hogger, these drivers have zero patience and are practically touching the bumper of your car in a bid to make you move out of their way.

3. The Harsh Braker

We’ve all seen it. Driving along the road at a normal speed and then suddenly the person in front slams the brakes on because they have seen a speed camera ahead or spotted a police car. Or worse they've been distracted by their phone, which is obviously illegal.

4. The Forgetful One

We all hate those people who seem to forget what an indicator is, and we are often left wondering how they passed their driving test in the first place. Oh, how we wish that these drivers would rediscover this nifty and informative piece of equipment.

5. The Lane Weaver

These are the cars and vans who look like they just enjoy weaving in and out of lanes in a bid to get ahead of the traffic, stop it, you're going to cause an accident!

6. The Dive for the Outside Lane

A little like the Lane Weaver, these are the folks who come onto the M1 or M2 from an offslip and immediately try and get to the outside lane without any indication or thought for the other drivers on the motorway driving at speed.

7. Thou Shall Not Pass

We all have encountered this driver. You pull out to overtake them and suddenly they accelerate in the inside lane to try and keep up with you. Even worse, they try and pull out in front of you after accelerating. Very frustrating.

8. The Performance Driver

These are the ones you encounter in slow moving traffic who are having a full on stage performance in their car as they sing along to the music, which is so loud everyone can hear it with their windows closed!

9. The Multi-Tasker

100% not legal but these are the drivers you see trying to multi-task when they really should be concentrating on the road. You'll see them drink coffee/eat breakfast/apply makeup/brush their hair/ flick through Instagram and TikTok and even brush their teeth...yes we really have seen it all!
