The lighthouse that we are now so familiar with was first built in 1827 and was then known as the Perch Rock Lighthouse. The lighthouse has not been in use since October 1, 1973, but is still maintained.

This beautifully-tended park leads on to New Brighton promenade and has great views of the Mersey. If you love football and golf then this is a perfect combination. Choose from nine or 18 holes and hit the ball to the hole in as few shots as possible. It's like an Aladdin's cave of books - quite a small shop but rammed with them from floor to ceiling. And you can always find something interesting or unusual and the staff are really friendly.
