The month of January can turn in to a long slog. With the winter weather and no Christmas lights or cheer, many people would say January is their least favourite month of the year.
So why not brighten things up and plan some fun activities this month to get you through the long dreary weeks. We have found a few fun things happening in Dublin that we recommend you try out to keep the spirits up.

Illuminated Forest Walks
Marlay Park and Cabinteely Park are offering an illuminated walking experience that has been extended until January 27. This is the perfect after work activity to brighten up the January blues.
The experience is open Monday to Friday from 4pm to 8pm. The area is perfect for families as well, and is wheelchair and buggie friendly.
This is the ideal way to get those steps in and start those new years resolutions off to a great start!
Paint with Coffee Art
If you are doing the infamous dry January this month and are beginning to wonder what sober social activities you can do around Dublin, then look no further. There are a number of events being run by Alternative Dublin around the capital.
Paint with coffee art is a workshop running on Saturday mornings and afternoons for the month at 11am and 2pm at 'This Must Be The Place' on Wellington Quay. Each person will create their own painting only using coffee.
The 90 minute session will include music, a bit of craic, and all of the materials needed. There will also be a selection of tea, biscuits and coffee (of course) to choose from for refreshments.

Dublin Lunar New Year 2023 celebrations
Dublin is celebrating the Year of the Rabbit this month with city-wide events including talks, workshops, performances and much more. Here are some of the activities taking place:
- Asia Market Drury Street will be full of culinary delights, starting with ‘Flash In The Pan?’ Food Trends Panel Discussion featuring top industry food experts and influencers on 22 January.
- Music @ the Museum: Lunar New Year Concert at the Chester Beatty on 25 January with violinist Chang Liu and harpist Chang Hu performing contemporary and traditional music. Members of the Qipao Society Ireland will showcase traditional Chinese costumes.
- The Hill Street Family Resource Centre Lunar New Year Community Celebration on 28 January will host a wide range of activities, from workshops to Lion Dancing.
- The Dublin Lunar New Year Closing Ceremony will take place in the Meeting House Square, Temple Bar on 29 January to round off the festivities.

Street Art Walking Tour
With over 30 pieces of street art, graffiti, stickers and murals to explore, this is a Dublin tour with a difference. Discover the secret hidden artistic gems of the city that aren't on every map, including a unique art gallery that is tucked away in the city centre. You will also learn the story behind each piece from your tour guide.
Street Art Walking Tour takes places from 2 to 4pm every Saturday, tickets are €11.50 and can be bought here.
Dublin True Crime Tour
If you have always been intrigued by criminology and gory stories then this may be the tour for you. This is a two hour guided tour that explores the crimes of Dublin's past and goes to locations such as Trinity College, Four Courts and Dublin Zoo.
Some of the topics you can expect from your tour guide are murder, robberies and kidnappings. It's on every every Saturday from 4 to 6pm. Tickets are €16 and can be bought here.
Clay and Coffee
This is the perfect event to get your creative juices flowing and you'll have a unique clay piece to take away with you as well. This is a 90 minute event where you will be provided with all the materials and create two clay pieces.
This is a complete beginners class so if you've always wanted to do some clay art then this is the perfect time. Music and refreshments in the form of tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
The event is on Sunday January 22 from 2:30 to 4pm, tickets are €26 and tickets can be bought here.
Paint St. Stephens Green
This is another creative event, where you can wind down in a relaxed atmosphere. Paint a picture of the iconic St. Stephens Green, with some guidance.
All of the materials will be provided and no experience is necessary. The event is on from 6 to 8pm on Thursday January 12 and tickets cost €22.20.
