Things to do and places to take the kids in Wigan

Sometimes it can be difficult finding activities to do with your kids that they will enjoy and be genuinely interested in.

Watch a match at DW Stadium

DW Stadium is home to Wigan Athletic FC and Wigan Warriors RLFC so if you want to rep your home team with the kids there's no better place than here.

The stadium also offers function spaces for special events that can fit up to 500 guests and even an Italian restaurant so you and the family can go grab a bite to eat.

DW Stadium is conveniently located near the centre of Wigan and has plenty of parking nearby if you're driving.

DW Stadium is located on Robin Park RD, WN5 0UH.

Take part in activities at Haigh Woodland Park

Haigh Woodland Park offers a wide range of exploration activities for kids and adults while promoting a fun and healthy lifestyle.

Activities include high rope courses, adventure golf, a miniature railway, and wooded hiking trails.

The park is not too far away from the city centre and is only a small driveway with a spacious car park included for large vehicles.

Open from 8am to 6pm every day of the week.

Go exploring at Fairy Glen

Fairy Glen is a nice little patch of greenery in Wigan which is perfect if you want to spend a bit of time away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

No payment is needed to enter the forest and is a great way to spend a quiet weekend.

It's important to note though that there is no car park at Fairy Glen and street parking is limited, therefore it may be a good idea to take public transport.

Skating at Wigan Roller Rink

Wigan Roller Rink provides the full roller disco experience complete with cheesy light, music and the odd event every now and then.

The venue also offers snacks, a cafe, as well as a licences bar if you're looking for something a bit stronger, although it's probably not the safest idea to drink and roll!

Open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 7pm to 9pm and open Saturday and Sunday 11am to 1pm, 2pm-4pm and 7pm to 9pm

Appreciate nature at Mesnes Park

Located on the edge of Wigan's town centre, Mesnes park is great to walk around with the family while admiring the sights and scenery.

Adorned with a bandstand and waterfall there are plenty of things to appreciate when visiting the park - you can also keep the kids busy at the children's play area.

If you're visiting on a hot day, or just fancy a sweet treat, the pavilion building houses Frederick's ice cream parlour.
