Thin Lizzy rocker Phil Lynott's mother Philomena sadly dies at the age of 88

Philomena Lynott, the mother of Thin Lizzy rocker Phil, has sadly died this morning.

The Crumlin woman had been battling cancer for the past few years.

She made the decision not to undergo therapy chemotherapy and knew that she was terminal for some time, reports Hot Press.

Philomena gave birth to Philip in West Bromwich, England in 1949. She sent her son to live with her parents in Crumlin due to racial prejudice she encountered in the UK due to Philip being mixed race.

She later gave birth to two other children, Philomena (born March 1951) and Leslie (born June 1952), who she gave up for adoption.

She only revealed the full story behind the adoption of her two other children in the second edition of her autobiography My Boy which was published in 2011.

In her later years, Philomena campaigned to keep her son's legacy alive and was successful in her bid to have a statue of Phil erected on Harry Street in the city centre.
