Authorities have confirmed a significant security breach at Windsor Castle, one of the residences of King Charles and Queen Camilla, where thieves broke into the royal grounds and made off with two vehicles. The incident, which occurred on October 13, was only recently reported by a British tabloid, shedding light on the alarming breach of security.
According to Thames Valley Police, the burglary was reported late in the evening, around 11:45 p.m. local time. The perpetrators gained access to a farm building on royal land and stole a black Izuzu pickup truck and a red quad bike. Despite ongoing investigations, no arrests have been made in connection with the theft.
Reports indicate that the thieves, wearing masks, managed to scale a 6 ft fence to enter the Crown Estate land. They then used the stolen truck to forcefully breach a security gate before fleeing the scene, leaving authorities to piece together the details of the daring heist.
Fortunately, King Charles and Queen Camilla were not present at Windsor Castle during the incident. The royal couple was reportedly in Scotland at the time and only returned to London the following day. However, the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children residing at Adelaide Cottage within the castle grounds, may have been in close proximity to the security breach.
Both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace declined to comment on the matter, citing their policy of not discussing security-related issues. This recent breach comes on the heels of a previous security scare on Christmas Day 2021, when an individual armed with a crossbow attempted to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II within the castle grounds.
The attempted attack on the late Queen raised serious concerns about palace security protocols, particularly after it was revealed that her distress calls for help went unanswered. The assailant, Jaswant Singh Chail, was subsequently sentenced to nine years in prison for the attempted assassination.
