Arsenal have the perfect opportunity to strengthen their midfield and weaken their rivals Manchester United in the proves by taking one of their star players.
According to Mike McGrath from the Daily Telegraph, Paul Pogba is open to Premier League offers if he leaves Manchester United this summer.
The Gunners are in desperate of a midfielder, and Edu’s alarm bells should have been ringing as soon as these developments became available.
It would certainly be considered a sideways move for Pogba to join the north London side from Manchester United, but his ambitions as a young kid could sway him in the direction of Arsenal.
Speaking on United’s official podcast the French midfielder said. “I will be honest.
So at the start, I was an Arsenal fan – obviously because of all the French players, you know.” Pogba added
“Me and my brother were but my other brother was a Manchester United fan.
I couldn’t say anything so I used to love Henry and, because of him, I was an Arsenal fan.”
Pogba has proved in recent years that he is one of the best midfielders in European and football, and the chance for Arsenal to sign him should be snatched with both hands.
He was pivotal to France's world cup winning campaign in 2018, similar to Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit in 1998, and Arsenal can look to repeat signing World Cup triumphers to install the winners' mentality.
The Gunners will be in desperate need of a midfielder in the summer window, as Football.london understands that Roma are expected to make a fresh attempt to sign Granit Xhaka at the end of the season.
This will mean that Thomas Partey would be the only experienced midfielder in the team, as Mohamed Elneny’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Pogba would create an excellent pivot alongside Partey or could excel even more in a midfield three, which relaxes his defensive responsibilities.
The Gunners would have to achieve Champions League football if they want any chance of securing his services, where even then a deal would still be unlikely. However, his admiration for Arsenal as a youngster can certainly sway in Edu's favour ahead of other Premier League clubs.
